Marina Mónaco is a photographer and film director from Buenos Aires - Argentina, based in Berlin and working worldwide.

Since moving in 2020 to Stuttgart, and then Berlin in 2021, she’s been exploring youth subcultures, young love, and the underground music scene.

In 2023, she began the Neue Welle series, inspired by the late ’70s/early ’80s New Wave music movement and the way the scene was captured. Drawn to backstage spaces and DIY concerts, she developed a raw, dark, black-and-white aesthetic shaped by the city itself.

Her work lives somewhere in-between: in between memory, something staged and the raw reality — between fiction and history—blurring the line between what’s real and what’s not.

Not speaking the German language, she embraced that distance—turning it into a portal to a fictional past -or future- a new temporality. Her photos double as self-portraits of her life experience far from home.

She’s photographed in cities like Berlin, New York, London, Leipzig, Hamburg, Düsseldorf, Stuttgart, Köln, and Dutch small towns.

Her work has been shown in Berlin and New York, with two photo books published under the name of  I Saw You in a Song.
